THE ARTIST
I am essentially a lifelong artist. My mother was an oil painter and portrait artist.
I majored in art, and other than a time out to raise a husband and four children, have continued to study and paint. I have been a member of the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center (BBAC) in suburban Detroit for decades and mentored with Professor Robert Wilbert MFA, Wayne State University and Dan Keller MFA Adjunct Art Faculty, College of Creative Studies, Detroit.
In order to add more dimensionality to my art I recently took classes with Japanese sculptor Kyu Yamamoto at the Morean Art Center in St. Petersburg, FL.
I am now a permanent resident of Vero Beach, Florida. My work has been featured at Gallery 14, as well as hanging in many private homes and businesses.
COMMUNITY THEATER PORTRAIT SERIES
I met my husband in high school where he was the lead in the school play. I was the makeup person assigned to several of the performers including my dear husband. Life went on, we married and had four children. Several decades later our youngest son completed an intense acting program at the Neighborhood Playhouse, a renowned conservatory in Manhattan.
I have had a lifelong passion for the human face, especially faces that communicate strong feeling and emotion. There is an element of physical expressivity required in all performing arts, but actors especially have an extraordinary emotional vocabulary that I have occasionally have been able to translate to canvas.

ON EMULATIONS
"Morphew's, work draws from her exploration of canvases created by leading artists throughout the centuries. She embraces the tradition of studying and emulating those pieces of well recognized artists from previous generations to hone her skill and technique of pallet and composition. This practice, while not common today, draws on traditions pre-dating the eighteenth century academies and later nineteenth century forays in painting from life and plain air studies to emulate the brush and tonal compositions of earlier generations. While no stranger to life drawing and painting from one's life experiences, Morphew examines, through her work, the challenges and technical creations found in western painting over the second half of the
previous millennium. In so doing, she reaches back to the experiences embraced by numerous generations in exploring styles and compositions representing the breadth of post Renaissance painting. Through this path her creations are not mere copies of significant works, but interpretations of past creations, emulating stylistic and compositional achievements. These exercises performed by leading artist throughout history, be it copying the work from a previous generation, emulating the work of a teacher or painting alongside a contemporary all provide for a strengthening of an artist skill and a composition that celebrated former achievements, while providing an interpretation seen through a contemporary lens."
